Need a Spot
Hi there everybody, i have finished rebuilding my 4ze1 with new main/rod bearings, piston rings seals, thrust washers etc. Just want to know from those of you that have replaced the thrust washers, which is the correct orientation to install these. I was assumed that the "smooth" side faced the crank lobe and the other side, say the "notched" side faced the no 3 bearing cap??? can someone confirm this, much appreciated smile

Adam.

It should go with the groves toward the crank. This allows for oil ingress and egress from the bearing surface.

bugger it ! i think i MAY have put them in the other way around - grooves towards the cap and not the crank, is this a major dilemma ? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
YES THEY MUST BE THE OTHER WAY OR YOU WILL BURN THEM OUT , AS YOU PUSH THE CLUTCH IN A FORCE THE CRANK SHAFT FORWARD THERE WILL BE LITTLE TO NO OIL ON THE SURFACE OF THE BEARING AND PRETTY SOON, YOU HAVE NO BEARING AND OR THE THRUST FACE OF THE CRANK GETS WORN DOWN, AND THAT ISNT A CHEAP FIX, AS MICHAEL SAID THE GROOVES MUST FACE THE CRANK JOURNAL FACE , JERRY
