Need a Spot
My tropper is a 87 2.3L 4cyl, engine block has been rectified and all valves and seals replaced.

I am looking for a replacement of the stock carb.

After some research it seems that the way to go is a for a Weber conversion, but I would like to get some input in regards emissions (considering that the engine has been overhauled) since the vehicle is mainly for street use purposes.

It also seems that the weber carb will provide better mileage but I would appreciate your input as well.

And finally, it seems that the right conversion kit for the 2.3L is the WK697 (32/36 DGEV) as listed on weber's site:

http://www.webercarburetor.net/product.php?productid=16151&cat=261&bestseller

And Indy4x:
http://independent4x.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=839915%7C1016331&PRID=1111818

But there's also the WK697-38 (38 DGES)

http://www.webercarburetor.net/product.php?productid=16152&cat=261&bestseller

Which seems to fit the 2.3L as well, there is also a considerable difference in price, so I'm wondering if anybody out there could provide some insight on the differences.

Thx in Advance!

I've been running the 32/36 DGEV for years. I bought it from National Carburetor in Jax for about $275.00 with a core. They suggested that I go with the 32/36 rather than the 38. You will not improve your mpg, at least from my experience...but the power increase over the Hitachi was noticeable. (I converted a 2.6 from FI to carb)

Good luck

Be sure about the legality of changing carbs. Here in California a Trooper with a Weber carb would not pass smog. It might run better, it might run cleaner, but it would not pass smog because it is nor OEM.

I went through this with a '73 VW camper. It stock condition it had 2 single barrel carbs. I replaced them with a single 2bbl Weber, a 32-34 DGEV, and it ran so much better, with alot more power. I had to remove the Weber every second year and put the OEM carbs back on for the smog test.

Other than that, the switch was the best thing I ever did to the camper.
