Getting the Wheeling Fever
How do I know what length of sway bar disconnect to order? I have a rough country 4" lift, and some home made heavy duty shackles. I don't know what the length is on the shackles. What are the stock shackles? Do i just take the difference in shackle length and add it to 4 inch suspension lift? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

First of all, lengthening a spring shackle will only result in a lift that is about half the amount the shackle was lengthened. So, installing a shackle that is 1-inch longer than OEM will lift the vehicle 1/2-inch.

I assume that you'le be ordering a set of quick disconnect links for the sway bar. I don't know about the other brands, but a Rubicon Express quick disconnect has 4" center tubes for a stock CJ. So, if your Jeep had a 2-inch lift, you'd order RE's with 6-inch center tubes. My CJ has a 4-inch lift, so I have RE's with 8-inch center tubes.

If you're ordering some other brand, try this procedure. With the vehicle on a level surface, remove the present sway bar links. Tie up one end of the sway bar so that the sway bar end arms are basically level -- that is, so that the hole in the end of the sway bar arm is at the same horizontal level as the main part of the sway bar. Now measure from the hole at the end of the sway bar arm down to the stud that the lower end of the link fits onto. That will give you the approximate total length that your new links have to be.

Then call up the manufacturer of the links that you want, give them the measurement, and get the correct part number from them.

This isn't that precise... A link that comes within 1 inch of your measurement will work OK. If you have to make a choice, it's better to have the link a little too short than a little too long.
