I know this sounds odd, but see if you can help me out....
Engine was rebuilt about 2 months ago--almost 2k miles.
Runs really good---no problems, however I developed a small leak around the rear of the valve cover (thought it was oil pan gasket and/or rear seal and replaced both)...
So I pulled the cover and found an extremely dry lookig top end---barely any oil on the rockers, or top of the head for that matter....
So, I know this will be messy--done it before-and cranked it up with no valve cover---whoa, no oil coming up from the pushrods---none, at idle , at 1k rpm,2k rpm--nothing!.
Usually a big mess by now...
What gives?--I have 20 lbs pressure at idle cold, and 40-50 at speed warm...No lifter collapse --not even a tick--I can't see how it was even leaking in the first place...
What could this be---a stuck pressure relief valve??-Is this normal?

What do you guys think?

Hmmmm it usually squirts oil everywhere don't it? We used to cut the very top out of a valve cover and install it before adjusting valves... doing it thataway caught most of the oil that was pouring out the top of the rockers.
Do those rockers even HAVE holes in the top?
If not then that is the reason for the lack of oil spray.
If you had low pressure the lifters would have complained by this time.
As hard and smooth as the parts are in the top end I doubt they really NEED much oil.
Are you sure there is not SOME oil running backwards DOWN the pushrods from the ball-joint at the rocker?
If yes then I would not worry about it.
As I remember that engine it gets the top end oil from a hole in a main bearing. If that hole was covered by the wrong bearing installed over it you would have no oil at all and catastrophy would already have occurred.

Yes, there are holes on top that line up with the holes on the top of the pushrods...
There is SOME oil on the tops of the rockers ,etc., just VERY little...maybe that is enough, I just always have seen them dripping with oil...

Again, so far with 2k miles, it seems to run fine---just don't want to have some problems down the road.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
