They do make one.

Don't do it. Trust me, I'm a professional. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

This opens up the intake side of a 3.0L pretty good..... maybe a little too good if you aren't careful:

I have a K&N, seems to work well. You could get the 3.5 t-body from a newer model Montero, should help it "breathe" a little bit better.
So how loud is that muffler? I'm lookin' into something aftermarket with a better tone. But, don't want any of that crazy loud noise. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I'm not a pro but IMHO I definitely concur with his statement all day long.
)
Here's why... A K&N will let more air flow but at the expense of allowing more particulate matter in too (no it doesn't trap more dirt because it uses "stickier" oil.

More particulate matter means more dirt into your intakes/engine which means more wear on the engine which = more rebuilds which = a bad idea, especially off road.

HTH.

What he means is...er, what I do is this:
1.Remove the paper filter and button the canister back up.
2.Slide the intake breather off the throttle body.
3.Stretch some panty-hose over the throttle body intake.
4.Put the breather line back on.

...not really.

...more airflow?

More airflow than what?

You need to supply a 3.0L with lots of clean cool air, and the Mitsu can-filter on the 3.0 does exactly that. It's a 3" system, with a huge filter, taking cooler cleaner air from in the fender, it's more than enough. In fact it works so well, I transplanted the whole intake/filter from a Mitsu 3.0 into mine and use it to supply a 4.3L engine (with a 3" exhaust).
I got no airflow issues.
Why should you?
