Allright, so the CJ idea got scratched. Would a Cherokee make a good tow rig?

I'm looking at a 6cyl with a 5 inch lift. Is it still possible to mount a trailer to it, considering the frame is not much higher off the ground?

Body Damage is Cool
It depends on how much you want to tow, what springs you have on the Cherokee, and what axle gears you have.

Also, BJ is right -- the Cherokee does not have a frame -- it is unibody construction.

Cherokees are a little short, longer wheel base vehicles are more stable. other than that it should be ok for a short lighter trailer

IF you go with the lifted Cherokee, get a ball hitch that drops enough to keep the trailer level, or close to it. Don't know the capacity. The manufacturer should have a recommended "not to exceed" limit, but of course they play it very safe. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />

Also, keep in mind that if you exceed the manufcturer's specified limit, and subsequently get in an accident, your insurance company may decline to cover the accident. Not to mention the basis that it may give the other party for pressing a lawssuit.

Yeah it won't last long. AND it'll not like the stopping either. MAke sure you have brakes on any 2 ton towed vehicle.

The reason for the brakes is because you may, sometime in the future, be behind ME!

Just as a side note to this, I once tried to rent a small trailer for my TJ from Uhaul. They would not rent it to me because it was not considered safe. Can't remember why exactly...
