Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have gone back through the posts and it seems that the common solution in getting the pistons closer to the top of the block, is to bring the top of the block down to the pistons.

Assuming that your deck surface is in good shape.

Why not offset grind the crank instead?

If you have a good machinist, the only reason I can think of not doing it, is that it will make the crank weaker. If your horsepower goal is 140-170 HP, I can't believe that it would be a problem.

The plus sides for offset grinding is.

1) It is easier to take a crank to the machinist than a block.

2) You now have a longer stroke and more CC's (ie. more power).

3) You now have higher compression (ie. more power).

4) You don't have to worry about cam timing as much (ie. may not need to buy a special timing gear.

Is there something I am missing?

Thanks
Ken

>>>*This is called indexing the crankshaft. The only thing the machinist needs is an exact starting point.

Custom fit stuff, easy to do.

Even more fun is to offset grind the shaft, use a 2" connecting rod journal, get a set of aftermarket small journal 283/327 rods (5.700" or any length you like using aftermarket stuff) to replace the Toyota (5.816"). You need a GOOD crank grinder, is all.

Pressed wrist pin instead of bushed but that works fine, or size and bush them if you like.

Bit of thinking, poor man's 2.6 stroker using stock type pistons....

Fun stuff, but lots of cutting and fitting.....*LOL**....*EB

Mudrunner
EB, you are a madman and I need you to help me get my truck to it potential. I have your 268 cam already, I'm regearing to 4.56 soon. I need to stay CA smog legal but I NEED this truck to perform on the freeway as well as the boonies. As it is the off road performance is okay, a little weak in deep sand, the freeway performance gives me a cramp in my right ankle from pinning the throttle to the floor for a 100 miles at a time, sometimes going to 3rd. to get up hills at 40mph. It sucks. I have wet dreams of a 4.3 v6 conversion but that isn't in my future. Worse case scenerio is I sell the old girl and move on to something else. I'm patient though, we'll see what the regear gets me. Thanks for freely passing your educated wisdom of these motors with us common folk.
