Need a Spot
I did a search but did not quite find a relative answer to my problem.

I gotten this truck from my father. I found out routine tuneups were not done on this truck. So i ended up doing so.

As of last week, The Automatic transmission started acting funnny. here are the symptoms:

From a dead stop (red light), and then roll.. the transmission "jerks". Almost seems like it rolls out of 2nd then onto 1st, but even whent rolling out of engaged "Low" gear, it does the same thing.

Another problem "Sometimes" is 3rd to 4th gear change, it slips? RPM goes up until you let off the gas, then in engages in the right gear.

I might note, it doesn't happen all the time. Also, it seems that when the truck is cold (before warming up) this doesn't occur until warmed.

I was reading some posts, and this is what I gathered:

FLuid Flush
Solenoid
Coolant?? (I just cheked and it is LOW)
New tranny <- I sure as hell hope not.

Any help would do. I am a newb to Trucks, and if you mention any sort of Acronym, please do explain what they are.

Thank you very much.

The least I would do is, drain and replace trans fluid. Make sure the fluid level is correct. Recheck level a few times to be sure. Sometimes it's kinda tricky.
This would be a great starting point.
I would not do a power flush at this point. I think the milage is too high for a power flush.
Try new fluid and post back results.

Thank you for the reply. I will give that a go and repost if it did the trick or not.

Thanks again.

Had the same problem with my 93 V6 Camry, either the trans is shot or the shifting solenoid is no good.

What helped for me was a small flush and I added lucas stop slip, while it didnt cure it it helped alot.

Roll Me Over
my solenoids acted quirky several years ago. it would not shift from 1 to 2. i did a drain and refill, and then again, and then again, and then again. you only get out a coupld of quarts from a ~15 quart system. by doing it and then running aroud for 15 minutes and then again and repeat, you get a lot more of the old stuff out without the power flush method. of course you lose some of the new stuff you just put in each time, but it is still worth it. my problem went away. i think a solenoid was just sticking.

nope, not a thing. i went out and bought a bunch of cheap ATF and did the drain, fill, drive a few miles and repeat process about 5 times. worked great since.

nsjuice,

The drain plug might be a bit quirky, meaning easy to strip. The first time you try to remove it, it might already feel cross threaded. Even if it doesn't, it's best to go slow. The first time you remove it: For every 1/4 turn of the wrench counter clockwise, turn it back in the same amount until it's removed. Get yourself a crushwasher for the last fill.

Amen to that!!!. If you are going to do that much draining all at once you might try the "home flush" method:

Flush
