So months and months ago I had extra money so I bought a Timing kit and gasket kit From Ted at www.engnbldr.com. I didn't use it for a few months and then came the chain rattle, and as luck would have it my head gasket was leaking coolant behind the exhaust manifold. After some research I dug in and replaced the timing chain and head gasket and everything was fine... for a while. After what I think was a month or so I could hear a rattle noise at idle, I thought it was the valves so I went and re-adjusted them, I just so happened to glance down and noticed that the two bolts that hold the drivers side chain guide were nearly eaten in half! I determined that I had over torqued the timing tensioner and after the vehicle warmed up the tensioners oil ports were becoming restricted. I counldn't find anywhere that just sold a tensioner so I emailed Ted and told him what I had done and asked If I could purchase the tensioner from him. I recieved an email the next day stating that his stuff had a three year guarante and he would be sending me one free of charge, this is after I had admitted that it was an installation error on my part that caused the problem. He also sent me a gasket kit for free. I tore it down again and installed the tensioer to the proper 12 ft/lbs and everything is great now. So any new comers check this guy out, he is a great businessman and a great guy. Thanks Ted for your great service.

I have told others that claim they cant find tork specs on the tensioner bolts about the 12# and they dont believe it "thats not very tight" I hear.I never tried it but I wondered what it would hurt to snug them up a little more. Now I know ,sorry for your trouble but thanks for sharing a hard lesson learned with us.I agree that Ted is the MAN.

Engnbldr rocks! He's awesome! Help me out with understanding the in's and out's of the 22R. Now I've got a great little engine that I rebuilt in my garage with his excellent 22R advice. All his parts are great stuff. I recently got a high flow oil pump and now my motor purrs like a kitten when I fire it up. His head gasket is the best too! Thanks Engnbldr!

ive built 2 22re's and 2 22r's with engnbldr's parts , I spoke to tod on friday for over an hour about parts for rebuilding my 22rte (turbo). i will be using his kit for it also. my first engine i built with his parts has over 50k on it and my girlfriend uses the truck every day to deliver pizzas.
i put about 14ft/lbs on my tensioner any more than that and youll have the same issue dude had.
