so i have finally run in to another problem with the toy.
i have a 96 or 97 taco rear axle with a cheap lockright and 4.10s. well the wheel bearings are beyond roached, which replacing those is no biggie. what i am wondering is before i drop a bill to fix those what axle is stronger in the end?

now i know the tacoma has a fully caged main bearings in the third, but a weaker housing at the neck down, were they get the 3" wider. but i have been talking to Sky and he is starting to belive that the ifs is stronger as he has been dealing with alot of problems with the tacoma rears once you gear and lock them. in fact he had a customer that just swaped his tacoma rear for a IFS rear.

that and the gears and spool are cheaper for the IFS rear to boot. so im stuck...do i fix the tacoma rear and pay the extra for gears and truss the housing or go back to what would be a stock rear end and put the gears and spool in that?

Zuk....?

Body Damage is Cool
I don't have enough exposure to the Taco housings to be an expert....but it's news to me. I thought the Taco housing was over-all somewhat larger all along its length than the IFS housing....I'd kinda think the Taco has the edge.

ok i will give him a pm, but if you could tell me his screen name that would be awsome.

well the project is going to be put back a few weeks as i gave my self a level 3 seperation of my a/c(were your collar bone attaches to your shoulder) i tore every ligament in that joint and there is now a gap of about 1"-1.5" when there is normally 1/8" gap.

lets just say it hurt enough that i had tears starting to well up and i almost blacked out at one point from the pain. that and i have to let it heal naturally they cant reset it and do not recomend pins with how much stuff is torn, it would cause advaced arthritis in just a few years.

damn front tire on my mini bike, it blew out while i was taking a corner at around 20, and asphault does not give at all.

nick on pain killers.

The housings are pretty much the same as the earlier ones. Same thickness of steel, etc. I've heard of problems with them tearing near the factory perch welds though. I think it might be a heat problem in the factory weld area? Building your own perch with a larger contact area on the housing should solve that problem. I've never had any problems with mine, but of course I trussed/shaved it and made my own perches. I think the axle is definitely worth keeping though for the stronger 3rd and extra width.

I also had a stage 3 AC blowout about 9 years ago (snowboarding). I had surgury and I'm very glad I did. They put a screw through the middle of my collar bone into my scapula and moved some lesser used or unneeded ligament from somewhere nearby over to replace the blown out one at the AC. The screw came out a month or so later (good thing because that bugger hurt!). Its 99% as good as new (lost a TEENY bit of range of motion reaching behind my back). I have no bump or any problems like I've seen people with even lesser separations have. Zero pain or arthritis type stuff. I would definitely recommend getting a second opinion!

The guy that did the work specializes in hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder and supposedly has fixed up some fairly famous pitchers and stuff... http://orthodoc.aaos.org/normanpoppenmd/

yes the axle has started to get small fractures around the front of the perches. i took a pic to show the neak down and you can see the dampness around the bottom of the perch from the fracture. I cleaned the garage enough to get the truck in there so when i can i will try and pull the axle out and do the wheel bearings along with new perches and trussing, it seemed to work for you so i will keep the stabbility.

well i am going in to see my regular doc in a few days and the guy he sent me to for my broken hand was pretty good. There has been a few people that have said to go get a second opinion and i think i broke my wrist on my right hand, i just didnt really notice yesterday as my left shoulder was the main injury. i know that the spazing in my shoulder this morning hurt an ungodly amount. it was spazing from both my back and my pectoral with almost full force. i could feel my shoulder shifting every time it cramped up.
