Anyone know the output for the stock power steering pump on a 1st gen Rodeo/passport? Should probably be the same for all 3.2/3.5 applications.

I'm trying to put together some numbers for a little project.

TIA,

Andre, look on top of the steering box.........follow the line that goes between the box and the pump, that is the output.....this should help you some:D.

on a serious note........

give the guys out in Texas a call, can't remember the name, the ones that did Robg's box, they could probabley help you.

I remember talking with Rob about this and his thinking is the box won't flow enough fluid to the ram,I'm thinking he said the stock pump is good enough but the box is to small.

So on those lines if the box is the restriction, then by going with a "orbital" you would get rid of said restriction.........

just something to think about while waiting for a real answer. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I remember the hearing the same thing. Jerry is looking for some specs for me as well. Just need to make sure everything is sized proportionally.

Thanks

when I had my MM hydro winch, I seem to recall coming across numbers that were like around 1000psi @ 2GPM.. but thats very old unverified data, so take it how you like.

but yes, I have been mostly unhappy with my hydro assist setup which relies on the stock pump and box. my personal opinion is the box is more a limitation than the pump, but again, thats only an opinion. I've got several friends who have hydro assist setups on various other vehicles and my setup isn't half of what a good hydro assist setup feels like/handles.

if you're thinking hydro assist with the stock isuzu stuff, my advice would be put the time/energy into swapping in different and more common components.

That does sound on the low side from what I've been reading. I was actually thinking about full hydro, as it would also clear up some clearance issues with the steering box. I can get a good deal on an orbital, and if I can make it work with the stock pump, it might be a feasable option.

How difficult would it be to adapt a different pump to our engine?

Thanks for the info <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

yea, i would be careful and really do your research over on PBB. with a full hydro system, its even more crucial to have your components matched together... I'd talk to some of the experts over there.

PS... I'll likely trade out my hydro assist for a full hydro setup down the road... but because of some of the complexity involved, I'm leaning to sourcing one as part of a complete package.

I found these spec's in the 94/95 Isuzu manual, for test procedures.

1,351->1,420 psi as normal for the pump.

not sure if it helps or not.

That sounds a bit better.

According to the PBB hydro calculator, I should be able to make a 2" cylinder (one sided, unbalanced) work nicely for my setup.

Instead of spending money on a front locker, I can upgrade the steering, and just weld it up <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

pave the way my friend! you might boost my project to the forefront if there's a little proven R&D out there I can steal from <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Andre,when you go that route let me know,I'll need a PS box so I can drill/tap it for mine <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
