Getting the Wheeling Fever
1985 extracab, slight leak from the pinion seal at the rear diff. Working from Rogers web page (thanks Roger) I have got it apart, now working on getting the old seal out, but that is a different story. I noticed the companion flange has a definite groove in it. Is there a speedi sleeve available for this application? Dont want to find out what the dealership wants for a new one, thats if they even have one in stock. Thanks guys.

Might be a Speedi-Sleeve kit for that, but you can get a new flange from many of the on-line vendors (Marlin, AllPro, TrailGear, Inchworm) doe $25 or so. Toyota will run you arounf $100.

Thanks Roger, I havent found anyone selling a sleeve, so I am going to put it back together as is (Daily Driver so need to get it back on the road). You were right, dealer wants almost 100$, guess I will be ordering from Marlin, and tearing it back down when I get a new flange. BTW, you might want to add an important first step to your pinion sleeve write up, drain the diff fluid. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Had no issues with gear oil leaking out when I replaced my pinion seal. I do have the pinion tiped up for the CV driveshaft, so I guess that helps. You could try with the front end uphill or up on ramps to keep the oil in there. I'll add a note to the web page about that, though.

My work space is a little nose downhill, so that may have affected things. Thanks yet again for all the knowledge that is available here, has saved me much $$$ in fix it myself mode. After the time spent under the truck, there is more to do, and I will be posting a few other threads with multiple questions about that in the near future.
