Hey guys
My auto class is havin a little 4 wheelin trip as kind of a goin away present to the seniors <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />, and the two days before are open days in the shop for getting anything you need done to the rigs before we get out there. i was goin to pull apart my front hubs and clean and pack them, since i havent done it for this truck yet. i was wonderin if their were any little parts or pieces that are required to be replaced, and if their are any tricks or things i need to watch out for.

Thanks

Need a Spot
If the hubs haven't been attended to in awhile, the cone washers might be rusted - they're sometimes tough to get off. A couple of days before I planned to repack the bearings, I took the hub covers off and sprayed the cone washers with a good penetrating oil. I found that the longer the time the oil can work the better. If you have to beat on the studs to get the cone washers off, make sure you keep the nuts on otherwise the cone washers can go flying. Use anti-seize on the cone washers when you re-assemble.

Just follow the procedure in the FSM. You should replace the hub gaskets and the slotted ring. You'll need a 54mm socket.

Don't beat on the studs!!

I lay a brass drift on the hub body and whack that instead.

PB Blaster all that stuff (NAPA) before you start.

x2 on leaving the bolts on; those stupid cone washers are around $3/ea if you lose them.

Don't overdo the grease; it's unnecessary.
