Getting the Wheeling Fever
Recently replaced a leaking seal on my rear diff. After a test drive I crawled back under to check, and the leak appears fixed, but the axle housing was quite warm. Have to admit I have never put my hand on it before after driving, so not sure how hot it should be, but was surprised just how warm it was.

Body Damage is Cool
Its normal to get warm, sometimes even hot. Just a lotta friction in there.

check the dif. vent.if its clogged it wont make it hot but it will blow oil out the seal when it gets hot.

So did you service it after you fixed the seal? Yeah, make sure that breather is clear. A clogged one is what generally blows the seals in the first place; it allows the gases that build up in the tube to expel; science in action.

Cleaned the breather a couple weeks ago when I first notice the leak, it was pretty clogged, may have been the cause. Had hoped that just clearing it would stop the leak, but it continued, hence the repair, which seems to have fixed things.
