Previous Thread Next Thread Print Thread Rate Thread AC Compressor - rebuild yourself? #813706 05/22/07 09:18 PM Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 62 Steamboat Springs, CO F FEA OP Getting the Wheeling Fever Having just been told that my AC system repair will cost $1700 I am considering rebuilding the Reed Valves on the compressor myself - the tech told me those are likley the problem because the clutch looked good to him and the system had freon in it. He said the compressor is not building up enough pressure to circulate the freon. They tell me a reman compressor cost $900 and a receiver dryer cost $180 - make sense? Comments or thoughts? [Re: FEA] #813707 05/23/07 04:36 PM Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 3 WA T trainwreckr Need a Spot individual parts for compressors are not typically available IME i usually install a used one from a reputable junkyard or "auto recycler" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> along with new o-rings at the junctions on the pump, car-part.com is a good way to find one pressure wash it before you start teardown, and make sure not to get any dirt specks, liquids, etc. in the system Re: AC Compressor - rebuild yourself? I'd check eBay, not only for reman'd units, but for take off's from wrecked vehicles.
