OK... how many places are there to swim in this state?

Clean water that's not murked up with algae beyond any sort of fun... and that's not as likely to give you a staph toxemia infection as to get you damp.

What about nice clean rivers? Any on the reservations that haven't been destroyed yet by overuse and careless OHV yahoos?

Thanks!

Pull out your map.

Salt River, the Roosevelt Reservoir for starters. Havasau City on the Colorado; Bullhead up north. Lake Mead Reservoir--I understand you can no longer drive across Hoover Dam, thanks to Homeland Insecurity.

Lake Patagonia and Arivaca down south.

Hook up with a 4wheeling or hiking club.

heh, thanks for the reply! I hadn't thought of finding a hiking club, I may just do that one..

salt river... roosevelt... they're pretty gunky. Even up at the Whiteriver branch it's just thick brown water you couldn't see through an 8 ounce glass of it, all full of nutrients that keep the moss and algae nice and healthy and everywhere. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the perfectly clear water in the Sierras..

Yep- Arizona IS a desert after all.

It's about 6 hours to Puerto Penasco from Tucson BTW.

I wouldn't swim in the Salt River if I was pushed...

Head up to Strawberry and cruise Fossil Creek Road. Many, many pristine swimming holes up there and the water is, shall we say, refreshing.
