Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was driving down the highway and i lost power..I made it home and checked my oil and it smelt like gasoline. Im figuring thats a blown headgasket. Does anyone know the estimates to get this fixed on a 88' Montero stick?

I dont have a clue how it happened. The Temp has always been fine. Anyone else know how that could happen other then old age?

88' Montero SWB 2.6L 5 speed, Got for free from my folks I couldnt stand the car I first drove just sit there and die.

I'd guess it's a blown diaphram in the fuel pump. Replace the pump and change the oil.

Whatever you do, don't keep driving it as is.... not only do you stand a chance of rapidly accelerating engine wear from gasoline dilution in the oil, you also risk a sump explosion and fire.

Ditto, and the fuel pump can be a bear. I suggest you remove the rocker cover so you can see what your doing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Be sure to set the engine at #1 TDC on the compression stroke before pulling the pump. It'll come out and go back in a lot easier.
