Getting the Wheeling Fever
I stumbled upon it yesterday on auto-trader, it's a 1986 Jeep Cherokee Chief, I don't know much about it yet, but it's got a v-6, 5 speed, 4x4, 4" Skyjacker Suspension lift, TSL Boggers, it's engine was rebuilt 52k ago..
I think it has a little lack in power, when you are going down the interstate doing about 60 , and going up a "Slight" grade, it'll lose power, and start slowing down I had my foot to the floor, and it was still slowing down..
And I had it off road in our pasture, and the thing was sputtering, it didn't die, you could give it gas and it would get better..
Just wondering if these problems could be related..
I'm thinking it might need a new Carb...
If you could help me figure it out that would be great..
Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like the tires are too tall for the gearing.. Might need to go with the tires the factory put in it or get some new gears.
How many rpm does it turn on the hiway at 60 mph?

it's got 30" tires on it..
I don't know how many rpm's it was turning, it don't have a rpm gauge, I'd have to say by guessing 3000 rpms, might be less or could be more, it's hard to say guessing...

Try downshifting to 4th gear and see how it does then.

OK, just out of curiosity what does it red line at???
My Mom drove it part of the way home, and she said she was doing 60 in 4th, and it was doing good..
Maybe I should just wait longer before shifting into 5th..

Oh yeah, what does Command-Trac mean??
While I'm asking, do these things have automatic hubs..
thanks,
Matt
