How have you guys restored the 4runner hard tops? The inside is in great shape, but the exterior black has faded. Is there a product the brings the the black back, or is it something you can paint? Any input would be great.

I stripped mine down 100% . Windows, liner - everything then sand blasted with 90 grit at real low pressure (don't want to gouge the glass)- this cleaned it up real nice . Didn't try to strip it , only clean the surface as it has a texture that would take forever to hand sand. Plus the grit gets into all the nooks and crannies easy. Gave it a wash with soap and water then painted the interior a light gray ( two part enamel) and the exterior I painted white with acrylic urethane. Sand blasted and powder coated the front window exterior trim and had them powder coated. Everything turned out great , looks better than new

You could also try one of the fiberglass cleaners.

Actually , if you want to be real simple about it , I would use the old paint shop trick of scrubbing with comet , wash it off and paint it.
