Hello all
Well got a nice little surprise today on the way to work today, My volt meter was pegged at 19 on my 98 TJ with the check gauges lite on, well I turned on my head light, radio and AC to drain the excess power and it went right down to its normal 14 volt range, and has been there every since.. what to you guys think .... the start of a faulty alternator, or something else??? Oh I did the traditional wiggle of the wires and all seemed ok??
cheers
ML

penny for your thoughts?

Body Damage is Cool
Are you saying that it now reads the normal 14 volts, even with the headlights and other accessories turned off?

yup, had it tested to day and they said that at 2500rpm it was putting out 13.6 volts which is within specks,, HMMMMM it was fine all day today, with accessories on or off (right at 14 volts) I think that it is my alternator (ie its starting to go).
cheers

Had you gone through any big puddles or deep water recently, where something could have temporarily shorted out, and then went back to normal when it dried out?

nope
I haven't wheeled in months due to low funds and little time, and it has been soo dry here in NC so no to the big puddles, only thing I could think of is there has been a lot of dew in the morning (thats when it happened) so maybe some moisture had some effect??
cheers
