I went out to the dunes yesterday. My truck does really nicely But when I get up some speed it really gets to riding rough. So what could be done to soak up some of those bumps?I removed my sway bar.Thats is all I have done though.Stock suspension.

Im not going to keep the truck long enough to make it worth investing that much in it.I just want my wife to be able to run it in the desert or on the dunes while Im driving the baja.It just rides way to rough.Would some heavier shocks help?

Nothing much you can do without spening big bucks but try premium shocks. Let more air out of the tires. Maybe invest in some onboard air if you dont have it already.
Yu can trim the bumbstops in the front but gain will be mininmal.

thats what I was afraid of.Seems with the current setup were limited to about 45mph.I dont want to really go much fast just smoother.

On my 87 Montero I run about 8.5" travel in the front. I had a bit over 9" but was binding the outer CVs so I reduced the travel. Now this is about 4" more than stock and I found a big difference when driving. To get this travel is more work than just cutting the stops, not to mention I still have all the stops in there and if you are running fast you should keep them. What I did was increase the droop travel by reworking the upper control arm by lowering the outer joint and then insuring the shock does not top out. Also watch for CV bind when turning tight, I had also backed off the turning stops to tighten my turn radius. Then I reworked the lower arm to allow more compression travel, I did not run out of CV range but was limited by tire contact to the inner fender.
I am doing this with my 95SR now and am looking to see how much travel I can get there.

When you say "rework", what does that mean? Modify, replace bushings, ??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Weld, cut, bend???
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

When you say "rework", what does that mean? Cut and Weld, The upper ball joint gets lowered down in the arm to allow more droop. After I had done mine John baker brought some tubular arms to market to do the same thing. I have no idea if any are around. In the lower are I submerged the shock mount to the lower surface allowing more up travel. I then modified the upstop to suit.
