Ok so I need to change the fuel pump in my 89 trooper 2.6.

Anyone have any tips that they can share or is it pretty much straight forward.

like drop the tank un screw the bolts pull it out put the new on in..

All I now is it is dam tight in there I hop eI have enough room .

Are you sure you need to change the fuel pump? What symptoms are you having? Have to tried hard-wiring the pump directly to a 12V battery to see if it turns on that way? Have you checked the plug and grounds back by the tank to make sure they're not corroded/broken? Have you tested the alternator?

BTW, if you do need to change out the pump, you can just do as you stated above. You can also just cut an access into the floorboard above the tank if you're feeling particularly unmotivated. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Well it start strutering really bad then finally stalled and then I could not get it started ..

I thought maybe clogged filter, so I replaced that .. And when I was replacing that, I turned over the engine with out the filter .. And low and behold NO GAS was coming out of the hose from the tank..

So I am pretty sure its the pump, I havce tried everything to make sure I did not miss anything.

One of the most common problems with the 88-91 4-cylinder Troopers is stalling/no-start due to the fuel pump control circuit and associated wiring. It may look like the pump, but it might also be one of the electrical connectors or the alternator (there is a signal from the alt that closes a relay which runs the pump; failing alt = no signal = no fuel).

I've spent lots of time on this problem myself and ended up rewiring the system, but there are many posts on the forum dedicated to diagnosing and repairing it properly.

That is the reason he was asking you whether you were sure it was the pump itself.

Before you do anything else you really need to put 12 volts across the pump and see if it will run.

There are many, many posts about the wiring issues people have had in the past with the early Troopers.

We'd hate to see you spend the time and money replacing a good pump to still have a problem.

Ok so how would I go about wiring a 12V to the pump, just get a12 V and some wire and run it directly to the conections on the pump.?

Yes!! You can run it from your battery or another.

Another 12V source that I occasionally use for this type of testing is a battery charger.

oh I have a trickle charger that might work eh..
