Getting the Wheeling Fever
Drove my 2000 Trooper up Hwy 31 in Utah today, on my way from Bicknell to SLC. Went up over the Wasatch Plateau just to get a look at Skyline Drive at the summit, so I could make plans for a trip down Skyline. It was pretty nasty at Huntington, but not too cold, and the ground was really warm. About halfway up the mountain, it started sleeting, then it got worse. Heavy snow fell and the winds were up to around 45 mph. It wasn't sticking to the road so up we went. Up at the top, an inch of snow was on the road and a few inches were on the ground. It started sleeting in huge waves, and we were above cloud base. As the sleet piled up on the road, it got really slick, so we pushed the TOD to maintain control. The road signs were all covered up with snow. At the summit, I saw and barely was able to read the sign indicating a left turn on to Skyline Drive. The visibility was so bad that I couldn't seen the turn-off at all, and I was only 15' away from it.

I pulled over and almost got hit by a big pickup, who didn't see me, so I decided not to hang out there trying to see down Skyline Drive. That'll have to wait for another day. Had to go on west for another 4 miles (major "down" at that point) and the sleet was now 3" deep and still blowing hard. Another mile and we were low enough to lose the cloud, the sleet, and the snow.

Just amazing fun on a beautiful June day in Utah.

Body Damage is Cool
Glad you are alright. My parents said that Huntington was cold when I talked to them yesterday. Kinda funny that the canyon is getting snow though. What are you doing in Emery county?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was on my way to Holladay, actually. I just spent two weeks prowling around on various Utah backroads and byways. My girl friend's folks live in Holladay, so we were there (saving motel bills) for a few days. Wound up in Moab, and am now back in the great Trans-Pecos Texas. Home to Ft. Worth area tomorrow. Another great 4500 mile trip with the old 2000 Trooper.

Later in the week we drove back into Emery County to Buckhorn Draw and Black Dragon Canyon. By the way, the upper part of Black Dragon is pretty much impassable due to last fall's heavy rains which re-located many of the big boulders in the trail.

I am always down in the buckhorn with my family. Pretty country there.
