Your dog is the alarm. Seriously. It'l hear anyone trying to break in long before they get in.
NO need for fancy wiring, and sensors, and crap.

Hey, I'll give him that. He is VERY alert and smart. We've lived there for less than a month, and he already knows which doors make which sounds, and will be there waiting, no matter what time we get home. I still haven't figured out what the light switches all do....

Lol...and NO, my dog isn't an amputee ....everyone asks that when they see that picture. He just likes to sit with his front legs folded back, from what I've seen most weeeeeney dogs do it.

NO need for fancy wiring, and sensors, and crap. My dog has always been a good gaurd but every since my daughter was born she will straight chew som arse if someone gets aggressive. My dog wont even let you hit yourself she will jump up on you and nip or bite. Its kind of funny. She is also not a barker so if she is barking then something is up.

Rich, Sounds like you got a good basic system. I'd spring for a glassbreak detector though...usually if someone is going to break in, they'll smash a window and then MAYBE reach in and open it to crawl through. A good glassbreak will listen for TWO specific frequencies in order for them to trip- first, a very low frequency or increase in pressure as the glass flexes before it breaks, and then a high frequency when the glass actually shatters....keeps false alarms to a minimum. Hardwired sensors are a good way to go as long as the installer has a bit of experience running wires. Wireless devices have come a long way, most (if not all) use some type of lithium battery that will last for years before they need replacing. I've seen some last as long as 8 years on the ITI (now GE) systems. Also, most modern alarms that support wireless devices have a jam-detection feature that can be enabled. You might want to consider a cell-backup too. The alarm panels that ADT uses are made by Honeywell, who make a nifty little cell unit that's only a couple hundred bucks or so. Nice to have in case your potential intruder comes equipped with a pair of wire snips for the phone line. Anywho, sounds like you already have a good sense of the situation. Alarms are nice to have, but certainly not as effective as common sense and a well-placed slug of lead

Thanks fellas for the input.
ADT came and installed everything yesterday, and the sales guy came out after I got home to show us how to run it all at the same time (already showed my wife).
It IS all wireless, at least the sensors and motion detector are. We've got 4 sensors on the front of the house (windows and doors), 1 on the garage door, and each way into the house from the garage, plus one on each slider and the kitchen window. Motion detector set to shoot across front of house towards stairs. Wifey got a keychain fob arm/disarmer (pretty cool)...whereas my big ass'll have 30 seconds to get in and deactivate it...lol.
I was cleaning my guns when he came in. He said it looked like I had the second layer of security all taken care of...lol.
Anywho...I don't think we really need it, but if it gives her piece of mind, then why not?
