Getting the Wheeling Fever
Anyone have one or know where I can get a clean frame, cab and bed? I just bought a diamond in the rough from a guy last night. It is a 1979 toyota pickup SR5 4x4. It was #993 out of the first 1000 imported from Japan. I bought it from the original owner and it came with the window sticker from back in 79. The price tag was $7,392, but he told me that when the truck arrived the sales manager increased it another $1000 because they were moving so fast. The interior is in mint condition with the exception of the bench seat which is ripped and the dash which has a couple of cracks. The carpet, door panels etc. are all in great shape. It runs like a champ, but was in an accident in October of 2006 though that is the least of the trucks problems. Rust has consumed it. The frame is totally shot and the cab is pretty bad as well. I'd like to get a clean cab/bed and frame, and start from there. The running gear is perfect on the truck. It only has 97,000 original miles. If anyone has some of the parts I need email me pics and info at eatpoo2@comcast.net. I'm located in southeastern PA, but have no problem getting the parts shipped if need be.

Body Damage is Cool
good luck on finding a good cab, frame or bed. they all rusted out easily.

there were no SR5 4x4s in '79 or '80, they were called the "sport" package which got you carpeted interior, wood grain dash, and a few other options. SR5 came out in '81 4x4s, with the new optional 5 speed transmission.

also, there's no 7th mileage digit in the odometer...maybe my truck's only got 16,000 miles <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Only bad thing is numbers won't match, so, kinda kills the history a little.

In classic/antique motorcycle circles that is known as a ôBitsaö It is made from bits and pieces into one unit.

Diamond in the rough, sounds like a lump of coal to me.

Cab bed and frame are about the 3 worst things and more common to go wrong on the early Toys. They can all be replaced but its no small feat and expect to be replacing pretty much everything else as well. Usually when people look for older toys they try and find something that has a good body and frame lol.

Good luck though you could come out with a really nice truck when you're done.

Need a Spot
I've got an 83 trailblazer I'm parting out in North Central Kentucky, 30 minutes or so south of Louisville. Body has issues but frame is still solid as are many other parts.

I saw a non rusted 79 frame in Kansas City KS up pull it on 12th street. Body was only rusted under the driver door. That was a month ago, but if you are anywhere close you could go look and see if it still there.
