I don't mean to be a post whore, but I searched the archives and couldn't find anything on this.

I am running a CT26 turbo from an MR2, and have fabricated my own downpipe. Have any of you tied the EGR into the aftermarket downpipe, or do you just block off the EGR?

I've read all the EGR vs. no EGR posts, and I just as soon keep it if it can be done cleanly.

Like the 22RE, the 22RTE uses passages cast into the head and stock exhaust manifold to bring EGR gases from the exhaust side back to the intake side. They will work just fine with a non-stock turbo, as long as the stock exhaust manifold is used.

If you're also using a non-stock manifold, well, I'm not aware of any aftermarket turbo exhaust manifold for this engine that uses EGR passages. But if you're just using the stock manifold with either elongated bolt holes for the turbo mount or an adapter, the stock EGR should work fine.

If you're not sure what you have, post some pics and we'll point out the relevant parts.

I've got a stock turbo manifold, as you can see in the pick my EGR tube comes over where it normally bolts up on an NA truck. Am I missing something here? The manifold doesn't seem to have and provisions for the EGR. I fabbed an adapter for the CT26 and had a machine shop machine the holes. Since I am using the 2 chamber MR2 turbo I ported the entry extensively for flow.

Where is the EGR tube in the photo you link to? I want to make sure we're discussing the same part.

I was munching on a fish taco, and it occured to me I have been talking about the air injection tube <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />. But I still have the same question as far as tieing it into the downpipe.

Thanks,

Aha, that makes more sense, as the EGR system works as I suggested, with passages that are internal to the head and exhaust manifold on the exhaust side.

For better or worse, my '86 RTE did not come with air injection, so I can't comment on your the air injection on your 88. Maybe try the 22RTE Trucks group on Yahoo? (I'm the moderator, fwiw.) I don't like directing folks away from this site, but if you need something that's specific to the turbo motors, it's a good resource.

G/L,

Jeff
