Yup, Toys are hard to run across over here, but I have located a late 80's Toyota MR2 being junked. I can have the seats for $10 each so I'll probably jump on them anyway, but I was wondering if anyone knew if the holes lined up installing these seats.
They are grey cloth, so they should look at home in my 4Runner. The bottoms tilt, the back tilts, they have adjustable lumbar support, and the side bolsters even adjust in/out!
If necessary, I'll modify them to fit, but I was hoping this could be a totally bolt-on idea. Anyone know?

The MR2 seats I installed in this '86 fit the outer 2 holes and the seat belt bolt hole. ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v33/Snowtoy/Seats1.jpg) The truck originally had a bench seat, so You might get lucky and all 4 mounts will line up. The one thing that I have noticed with the Toyota buckets from auto to truck, is that you have to lift the outer rear mount so the seats backs are level, something I didn't do on the '86. Sometimes it is as simple as a few washers and others it can be a 1" spacer, as with the '94 Supra seats in my '91. At any rate for $10ea. they are a steel and it wont take much to get them to fit if they aren't a direct bolt in. If the mounts don't line up exactly, you could try and swap the seat mounts from the Runner's seats to the MR2's.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

I did this, but I wanted the same sliding ability as the truck. I have extended cab and need rear access. For me it was a major PIA. I salvaged the original sliders by cutting them off the old split bench. I ended up raising the front of the mr2 seats up about 1.5 inches. I dont think the bottom section is wide enough for a truck. THe MR2 seats are not as well made as the truck seats. they have less padding in between you and the metal frame. I think if you are doing some hard wheeling in the truck, you will find the tilting mechanism is probably not as strong as you need for a heavy male bouncing around. The gears that hold the seat angle are only used on one side of the seat, where trucks have them on both. I I didn't weld my old sliders to the MR2 frames. I made some bolt up rig because I think I will replace them. The tilting bottom is nice, but if you are 6 foot tall it wont come anywhere near the bottom of your legs unless you tilt the front up. I wasnt willing to drill holes in the body of my truck and I really didnt want the limited sliding ability of the MR2 seats, if your in a regular cab it may not matter.
The MR2 rear bolt holes were nowhere near the holes in my 89

Hopefully I don't have the same problems...
You say less padding between me and the frame? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I have almost no padding left to protect me now, so my 4Runner has become barely driveable! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
From the pic shown, the bottom will be plenty wide... The center console in the 4Runner takes up nearly a foot of width out of the center of our rigs, and our mounting follows the earlier, second gen truck pattern (compared to your 3rd gen 89).
I always sit pretty upright when I drive, so hopefully the recline function will be strong enough to hold me up.
Thanks for your experience.

I think one or two of the hoes lined up on my MR2 seats but not all. I think I had to drill one if not two additional holes to make them work. They were close but not exact I do have slide and tilt.

I say the seats are narrow because there is so much room between the center console and the seats. I put in a stock console. The MR2 has a narrower body and your legs are propped up by the console and door. There is almost no side support and I am a skinny person. 33 waist and no ass. The sides of the seats dig into my legs near the hip.
