I've got a 2000 Toyota 4runner - it's a V6, 2 wheel drive SR5 with an automatic transmission. My odometer reads somewhere in the neighborhood of 112,000 miles. My recent issue: Front End Vibration/Noise. Initial diagnosis, as suggested by the dealer service department, was faulty U-joints. Changed them out and still felt the vibration, however, rather than at speeds of 35 +, it is now in the range of 70 +. Their recent suggestion is a failed transmission <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> , which needs to be rebuilt/changed out. Any one with similar issue past/present? Thanks.

Hmmm...I wouldn't change the trans just yet.

It's possible that the drive shaft is out of balance. It could have threw one of the weights. I'd get under there and check it out.

Or it could be your wheels are out of balance. Try swapping the front tires to the rear and see if the vibration changes.

If you shift the truck into neutral at 70mph, does the noise go away?

Hey, tried your suggestion, ran it up to about 80 mph & put it into neutral. It coasted down and the vibration/noise remained until it dropped below about 62 mph. I'm gonna try getting underneath to look at the drive-shaft weights. Thanks for the tip.

I have to get my tires rotated and balanced about every 8k or so to curb vibration issues in my 99 runner (same thing, vibrates between 70-80 MPH). My 94 pickup was the same way.
