Can anyone explain to me how the power mechanism works for a Gen II front window? My window just fell one day and would not go back up. I pulled the panel and tried to figure out what happened to no avail. Well that's not entirely true. There were white plastic bits at the bottom. But I cannot figure out what broke and how exactly the mechanism works so I can fix it.

It almost looks as though it's a circuit with a single cable hooked at the top and bottom of the slider and wound through the motor off to the side. Or it's gravity fed on the downslope and the cable just hooks to the top and provides lift only.

The shop manual I have on CD does not look at all like the mechanism I have in the Paj.

Currently I have a piece of wood jammed in holding the window closed!

Suggestions?

What I find useful sometimes is to get a printout of the exploded parts view from the dealer parts department. They are usually more detailed and can show larger views of the parts. The window should be power up, power down.

Your window regulator is a cable-driven mechanism that's similar in design to 90% of the vehicles built today. The window slides up & down on a track, and is attached to a cable. The cable runs in a roughly triangular path, with the apexes at the top & bottom of the window track, and at the spool for the window motor. When the window motor operates, it spins the spool which pulls the cable in one direction or the other by wrapping or unwrapping the cable. The window moves up & down between the upper & lower guides (which are at the top & bottom apexes of the triangle) because it's connected to the moving cable. What usually happens is that one of the plastic cable guides breaks, allowing the cable to flop around & not move your window. If you hear the window motor operating when you press the switch, then you should be able to replace just the regulator & fix your problem. It's much easier to understand if you can locate a parts diagram, or just take your door apart & play with it for a while.

Replace the window regulator with a new assembly from Mitsu- You'll get a new motor and regulator bolted together. I paid only $113[USA$] appox for my L/F a few years ago. As window assemblies go, this is almost dirt cheap with regards to getting a WHOLE assembly[motor included] Very easy to replace our Gen 2 front units...

Kelvin, I'd say your best bet is to simply pull the window out and leave it. I can come dispose of it for you if you want....

Sorry. I can print you an exploded diagram, such as it is, on CAPS if it would be helpful?
