Gentlemen (and Ladies if any are present),

My 91 Pajero that I drive has experienced an extreme loss in power over the last 6 months. I can put my foot to the floor and count to 5 slooooowlyyyyy before I accelerate.

Seriously.

I can feel the turbo kick in once the RPM reach 2000 or so but even then it's not the kick in the pants that I used to get or that I get in my other Paj. I changed the fuel filter, thinking that might be the culprit but it made zero difference. Pulling my Tent trailer I'm lucky if I can hit 90k on the flats foot to the floor for hours on end. If I have a head wind I'm relegated to 80k if I'm lucky. Don't ask me what it's like when I try to climb a hill!

There's no black smoke anytime ever. If I let it idle there's blue smoke after 4 or 5 minutes once it's warmed up.

Thoughts?

Please?

No black even under full throttle? If this is the case I would guess that you need to adjust how much fuel you are injecting. Probably a dumb question but is your throttle cable OK?

Throttle cable was my first thought.

I presume it's the intercooled version.

Check for leaks in the inlet tract.

(I drove a friend's jeep Cherokee CRD a while back. It was very underpowered. At first we thought it was the turbo / waste gate, but it turned out to be a small tear in the turbo-to-intercooler pipe).

it sounds like your not getting boost...I have blown my intercooler hose off a couple times (because I put a pipe in where that silencer thing goes) and it gets incredibly gutless with zero boost. but mine was smoking black like a chipped dodge cummins.

I have similar problem but at first and second gears. I feel it is not enough torque. RPM goes up to 2500 and 3000, engine is screaming but not running good...

But at third and fourth it is accelerating like a beast, I really enjoy it!

Where shoould I look?

Thanks, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Throttle cable seems fine.

I checked all the intercooler lines and they appear to be in great shape. Any downside to temporarily bypassing the intercooler?

If it were not getting boost then I would expect a ton of black smoke. No?

I keep coming back to the fuel pump. Any downside to increasing the flow?

Grasping at straws,

What's the easiest way to test the boost? Can I tap a gauge in somewhere? And if so, what PSI should I be reading?

you can tap a gauge right into the vaccum line going to the wastegate. I run 10.5lbs of boost normally.

and there should be no problem with running your truck with no intercooler. the 4D56 in the L200's come with out one. efficency goes down with out one though.

Good to hear from you Torquemonster. I gotta get your # sometime. I drive through Red Deer often enough and we should get together for a bubbly and compare rides.

So I took a peek for the vacuum hose going to the wastegate and there's a couple that could fit the bill. Can you be more specific as to where exactly it is? There's a solid metal line that comes up from below the turbo into a canister of some sort right beside the EGR valve then it looks like a braided line that goes from there and dumps into the intake of the Intercooler.

Am I close?
