Getting the Wheeling Fever
My truck has 2 issues with regards to the idle. The first issue - when I start up my truck ('95 truck w/22RE) the idle goes up to almost 2,000 RPMs. In the winter I wouldn't be so surprised to this, but it's the outside temp is at least 65?F. It'll eventually come down to around 900 RPMs. The second issue - once the engine is warmed up, there will be times when I shift into neutral as I'm coming to a stop, and the engine will be idling at 1,500 RPMs. I can get it to go back down to 900 RPMs if I rev the engine to 3,000+ RPMs and then let off of the throttle.

What could be wrong with it?

David

Could be a vacuum leak. Could be a crack in one of the air intake tubes.

Could also be that the dashpot is sticking:

I ended up putting a stiffer throttle return spring on my '85 to help the complex throttle linkage close fully. Has worked perfect since then.

Just out of curiousity, 2 questions come to mind: 1) Would this condition possibly throw a code on the computer? And 2) Isn't there a cold temp injector or something like that? And is it possible that's gone bad? Is there a way to test it?

In addition to 4Crawler's suggestion, clean your throttle linkage to start with. I don't think your CS injector would affect this. IIRC, your temp sensor affects the kickdown after warming up. Check your coolant level too; the 22RE's are rather persnickety about being topped off.

We also have an FSM for a '93 sticky'd in the early trucks section for your troubleshooting use. Be aware there's 3.0 info in it as well, so mind what you read.

Also for your year, for $10 you can download your FSM at www.techinfo.toyota.com; it's schweet. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Have you checked for carbon and "crud" build on the back side of your butterfly which would not allow for proper closing. Also like kewlynx mentioned clean and lube your linkage especially the butterfly shaft.
