I've got a 00 Tacoma 4 cylinder and want to make it have some sound but don't know what to put on it that is fairly inexpensive.

magnaflow is pretty good... has some beefiness to it without sounding like a fartcan... flowmaster 40 is louder...

I had Magnaflow on my last T100 (same 3.4 v6 as the Tacoma). I was very disappointed in the sound as it was too soft. At idle, it was basically like my stock muffler. Because of it, I'm going with the Flowmaster 40 series on my current Tacoma.

I know you have the 4cyl, but I think the bottom line is that you'll need to ask whether you're looking for sound or actual performance gain? Having had several trucks in the past with performance mufflers, the difference in performance would be minimal if all you're doing is swapping out the muffler.

These days, I'm just doing it for the sound. And if you want sound, I would say the Flowmaster 40s.

I have the Flowmaster 40 on my V6, and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in the sound. At idle and low RPM it sounds low and beefy (the MagnaFlow hi-flow cat actually made the sound even deeper). But once you goose the throttle, you experience the "fartcan" sound. I think you just can't get that big block 454 sound with a V6, you gotta sacrifice somewhere. However, the MagnaFlow (to my recollection) uses the glass-pack method, with gives the truck a deep, yet muffled sound. They can still be loud, but I think they give off a little more of a high-performance "tuned" sound than a Flowmaster.
Just my opinion though.....

I put a ceramic coated header from downey offroad on my 2.7 4-banger with a 40 series flowmaster and i kinda like it but i suppose its a preference issue cause ive heard magnaflows and they sound good also. Remember though you dont have a v-8 so anything you try will probably sound like a "fartcan". good luck
