For a tacoma? spacer lift and add-a-leafs are probably teh cheapest way to go... or you can get new springs...

I have a 96 taco and i went with a fabtech adjustable coil over setup. If you only want two inches your golden but anything more you will lose your ride and stress your upper ball joints to the max. I think i only paid about six bills for the kit and it looks good.

96 taco 4x4 Fabtech adj coilovers in the front, BDS leafs in the rear, 32x12.50 MTRs, Downey Offroad header/Flowmaster, not bad for now, sas this winter

word... if not doing any stressful wheeling, a toytec spacer lift will suffice... i ran their 3 inch lift once, and with non TRD coils and bilstein HD front shocks, the ride was good onroad and bearable offroad... running 31s though, might look funny with anything over 1.5" lift... 32s would fill in that wheel well better...
