are these worth packing in the survival bag? I want to save room for some extra food in my day pack/survival pack.

They appear to be reasonable performance in a variety of altitude and temperature ranges. The ones I have seen are a little pricey.

However, if you are looking for a compact unit, it does appear to be a good choice.

Yep; pretty popular option for mountaineering gear up here.

FWIW, the HEET in the yellow bottle (not the ISOHEET)is what I use for a winter stove in a 3# coffee can and a roll of TP as a wick. Works well enough to warm up pouch food and some water or snow melt chores.

I ended up getting a featherlite stove at a yardsale for 10 bucks. I have to replace the pump seal but what the heck right? I use the yellow heet to preheat my coleman camp stove in the winter. Just put a half a cap in each burner, light it, then when it burns out, turn on the stove and light it. Its way cheaper then buying the coleman cold weather paste.
