Getting the Wheeling Fever
I really hope this isn't the problem, but is there any easy way to tell if the rear main seal is going bad. I seem to be dripping oil around the clutch housing and the rear of the engine. It sure would be nice if it's only the oil pan gasket but I doubt it.

By the way, it's a 89 YJ, 4.2.

run your finger around the back of the valve cover, maybe you will be lucky and its just a bad valve cover gasket.

Install a NEW pcv and check for good vac on the valve cover hoses. blowby pressure in the engine can cause the rear main to leak if it cannot escape thru the vent system.

Body Damage is Cool
For your sake I hope that it is not the rear main too!

Some will tell you that it can be changed with the motor in the Jeep, which I'm sure it can. But it is much easier with the motor outta the Jeep.

I had to change the rear main seal on my Jeep recently, and driving the old seal out is kinda a PITA.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

I don't really believe it and will give it a couple more days, but I changed the PCV and the rear breather element on the valve cover and drove the jeep all day. Never once did I find an oil leak under the jeep.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!

By the way, you guys and this forum is the best.

I have had em with so much blowby that I had to take the pcv OUT and hook both the hose to the breather and the pcv hose to positive vacuum! It has always stopped the rear main leak too.
Thanks for the reply get back here in a few days and give us a update.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
After a whole week and no oil drippings, I am a very happy camper right about now.

Thanks Big Jim!

Thanks man...I really needed that! It has rained here for at least 10 days and all day today!
Glad to have helped.
