I've had the same fuel pump since I bought the truck and have never had problems with it. The other night I was on a trail and it just died. Replaced the pump and all was fine for about 30miles and the same thing has happened again. I haven't actually confirmed that its the pump yet this second time, but its doing the same exact thing so its gotta be.

The fuel filter is about a year old, but I am gonna replace it today. The first pump had a pressure regulator down to about 3psi, but I took that off when I put the second pump in so thats not whats killing them.

Coincidence that two in a row died? I can't think of anything that would continually kill carb'd pumps, I've never even heard of one dieing before now.

Thanks,

Scerb

A couple things come to mind.

#1 what's the condition of the eccentric on the nose of the camshaft? If it's loose or wobbly, I bet that could make them die.

#2 is the vent hole on the bottom plugged? In the FSM it says the pump arm should lock if you block that hole, so I'm guessing if it's blocked it will rupture some internal gaskets.

#3 check the return line for blockage. I'd say get rid of the FPR, but you already did. Again the FSM says blockage in any of the lines should lock the pump arm.

Maybe?

These are factory toyota pumps outa parts trucks. Got a couple left before I gotta start paying for'm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Stock87, you brought up some good points about something being clogged. I was in mud about 20min before the 1st one died, but not before the 2nd one died. Maybe the return line got plugged somehow, idk and I don't look forward to finding out.

And TinyTruck, carbs suck your moms dink.
