I'm thinking of buying two Infinity Basslink for my Runner at 220 a piece. I was wondering if this is a good "thing." Someone shed some light

Basslink

For around $450, you can do better. Rather than getting powered subs, I would go with two 10 or 12 inch drivers in a sealed box wired in parallel, powered by a 2-ohm stable 200-600 watt power amp. What's your budget limit and how loud do you want it to be?

My limit is $500.00 I don't want a "shake/rattle anything within 200 ft. " bass. I already replace the factory head unit with a Kenwood and I got Polk speakers to go with it. Now I want to complete the system with a sub+amp and I saw the BASSLINK and liked the features (compact but can do the job).

The entire appeal of the Basslink is tiny packaging and convenience, not world-shaking bass performance.

If you want to try the Basslink out, I'd say buy one, and then sell it to me for half price when you decide that you want more power.

If you want more than one, go ahead and buy a couple of subs, box and amp. I'd say 10s in a sealed enclosure with a good, hi-powered amp for clean, tight bass, on a budget. Maybe 12s, but it will take a lot more homework and speaker auditions for you to decide what's right for you. Some 10s sound better than some 12s and vice versa. Then there are 15s, etc... Then all the amp choices. The spectrum is so wide! Go to your Tweeter, Best Buy, Circuit City, or if you're lucky, specialty "high-end" shop, and listen to different subs with different amps. Listen to stuff that you can and "can't" afford to see if think the price difference is justifiable to you. Bring music you know, with stronger bass and low end, and play it. Take your time. See what you like. When the guy comes over to help, don't let him pressure you. If you feel comfortable, ask him questions, but know that a lot of them are "encouraged" to move certain products. But it all comes down to what you like. It's your coin. Even though you have lots of great resources and "knowledgeable" folks around here, you're the one who has to live with spending $$$ on something you're happy, or not happy with. Use any advice as a starting point, and go do your own research. It's the only way you'll be happy.

I still think you should buy the Basslink, and sell it to me for half price.

Ryd (pronounced as ride), that's a very good advice. Thanks. I will go to Circuit City and listen to it then buy it a etronics.com beacuse they sell it for 100 bucks less (IF I like the sound).

Sell it to you for a half price? I'll buy you two of them in exchange for an ARB bumper

Golden Dragon:
Ryd gave you some pretty good advice. The reality is that the-all-in-one sub/amp systems will never sound as good as a seperate sub-woofer in a tight inclosure (of adequete size) with clean, high quality power running it.
Now, if you're someone who is not that discriminating, the-all-in-one you've mentioned will probobly do it for you, but for me I would never spend the money on somthing like that.
If clean, simple install, and great sound quality is what your willing to spend your money on I can not recommend anything higher than the JL audio Stealth Box.
http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/4runner.html

They are a fiberglass enclosure desinged to fit seamlessly into the 4Runner and sound great. You'll need an external amplifier and a qualified shop to run power to the amp, RCAs from the head unit to the amp and speaker wire from the amp to the JL box.
This set up with your new polk audi mids will satisfy even the most discriminating listener and with your new head unit you will have the ability "fade" the stealth box for better tunability.

Tuna, that's a nice box man. I wonder if that will fit a 95?

Golden,
I'm not sure, but I think the only thing that may have changed in that corner in '96 is the size of the storage area cutout of the interior panel. This box utilizes the space behind that panel which I'm more confident hasn't changed. So at worst you'd have to trim a slightly larger hole in the panel. You should make some calls to confirm what's required. But I'll guarantee you that this box, with a good external amp, will sound significantly better than the Basslink. As well, if you were considering two basslinks I would assume that the Stealth Box takes up less cargo space.

Happy hunting,
Tim
