Getting the Wheeling Fever
my wife's trooper caught on fire last week and was totaled out (had been in the shop 1 week earlier for a intake manifold leak, rather suspicious). this was the 1st time it had been in a shop for an actual repair in 80,000 miles. it was an excellent vehicle and prior to this we would often comment how much we had enjoyed it.

now to the request: talk me into another trooper.

basicly, what's the odds on finding another trooper that does not use oil (mine used very little in 5000mi/mobil1) and that was maintained well (i was planning on keeping mine well over the 200,000 mark). i have also considered a montero (the older body style and the big one) or, do i use my insurance money for a down payment for a much newer vechile (say a commander).

talk amongst' yourselves while i go to bed.

thanks, joel

Howdy,

If it were for my wife I'd go for something newer. The peace of mind (not to mention the peace and quiet) would be well worth giving up that sweet boxy goodness.

Body Damage is Cool
As great as the Trooper is, I think your wife might have flashbacks of the fire if she got into another one. I will not rent a Neon today because it reminds me of the one my daughter wrecked 5 years ago (she was OK). Nothing is wrong with a Neon, it just bring back memories. What about a Rodeo?

Vote: Rodeo. Ok, or a newer (less boxy) trooper.

I actually owned a '74 Pinto. Engine went at 66K. It got the same mpg as my Rodeo today.

The prices are good, my concerns are more of the reliability part of the older troopers.

I have a friend with a newer trooper (he won't join the wire) and he still loves it.
