Conesville, just over the mountain (literally) from Windham.

Why? Wanna break stuff? (Sorry, we call going for a trail ride "going to break stuff', because we try hard to do exactly that)

Used to live in Dutchess Co, in Pawling, on Whaley Lake. I'm very familiar with Marlborough/Marlboro (Tell me, why did they change the spelling to match the cigs?)

Had to get outta there. Too much development, taxes too much and finding places to wheel without getting arrested (like Mt. Beacon and Minnie Park) was too hard to find.

Now I have my own private rock ranch with a brand new house, and it cost less than half of what we sold our little shitter in Pawling for.

Wow, don't come around for a few days and boy does my post go a little OT.

I know where Windam is. But not familiar with Conesville. You are definitely deep in the Catskills.

Can't. Don't have the Sportage anymore. Currently no 4WD here. But thanks for the invite.

I grew up in Dutchess County. Wappingers Falls area. BEFORE it was developed. Back when I was a kid it was a one horse town.

It is the township of Marlborough. Within the township is the unincorporated hamlet of Marlboro. Why they are spelled different is beyond me.

Dutchess County is now a bedroom community for NYC folk. Can't stand going over there although my employment is there. Where I live is less developed but it's slowly creeping up the West side of the Hudson River.

Yep, cost of housing in that area is totally ridiculous.

We just picked up a 2002 2dr stick Shortage for $600. No, it's not a turd, actually in perfect condition with 105K. See, my wife is a Kia dealer service manager here in smAlbany, NY. This came in on trade, and she bought it for trade-in. Kinda sickening that a 2002 is fetches about a half grand in trade.

Would that happen to be Lia Auto Group on State Street in Schenectady? I bought some parts from them once or twice.

Depaula Chevrolet used to have the Kia Franchise in Albany. They were a bunch of turds. Tried to charge me for a warranty repair and they didn't fix it properly anyway. (It was the intermittent wacko idle problem all Sportages seem to have. I fixed it myself)

I'm a zooker too... - 1988 - made into a buggy, with 38" swampers, Sway away 18" air shocks all around, locked front and rear, dual Marlin Crawler, with a 5:1 gear in the rear case... on an d on...

Just bought a 2000 Kia.... so not thread hijacking. Just searching for info on this truck...

BTW, the sidekick gears can yield a 5.125 gear ratio if you pull them out of standard transmission trucks, and they are a direct bolt in to the sammy axles... front or rear, as long as you use the front diffs from the tracker and not the rear...

well, just so you know, contrary to the title of the thread, there is NO NEW INFO in this thread. there is a bit of old info and some conjecture, but nothing that will serve you. if you want good info, we had a metric crapload of tech in here about a year, maybe 2 years ago, search back a bit and find probably more than you want to know....

Nice build sheet on your Zook.

You're gonna find out what I found out, the aftermarket support for the Sportie is, well, nil, especially when you compare it to Zook, which in and of itself pales to Jeep and Toy.

No manufactured lifts, and what I have seen is mostly coil spacers (UGH!). No R&P options so bigger rubber kills performance. T-case has fixed flanges, so doing a SAS is possible, but yet again, in a trucklet that had no t-case gears available, no off-the-shelf rock protection options.

I'm leaving mine stock, saving the fustration and focusing on a SAS on a 95 4dr Kicker I just got. When the rust takes over on this one, I'll do a virtual lift, shove 33"s on it, weld the spiders and drive it like I stole it till its broken.

BTW - 16v auto kicks also have 5.12's.

Wow, who pist in your cornflakes today? Maybe a Kia thing I wouldn't understand.

I guess a remote, belt driven supercharger that could be had for cheap from a pick-n-pull isn't tech or valuable? Funny, another thread was asking about S/C & turbo options.

ok, you got me, one morsel.

who pissed in my cornflakes? well, here's the thing, when you get your info straight, like after searching the massive amounts of info we have on the very subjects you're commenting on, incorrectly i might add, then maybe i won't have to come back in here and correct your misleading information.

see next post for corrections....

the aftermarket support for the Sportage is very small, not nil. there is Tanker in Korea and Rocksportgear (me) and UpYourKia in the US, as well as Iron Man suspension in Australia and the US and Eaton in the US. there isn't a whole lot available from each company, but if you get a little of this and a little of that, you can build a respectable rig.

no manufactured lifts? of course there is. there are at least 2 manufacturers right here in this forum! besides Ironman and, originally, Eibach. then there's 4crawler, who makes a 1.5" and 3" body lift, also.

UpYourKia makes a coil spacer set, but neither Ironman nor Rocksportgear use spacers, full coils all the way.

there IS a ring and pinion set available, but so far, we have not been able to communicate well enough with the Korean company making them, to be able to order them, so, i'm going to work on this soon.

no off the self rock protection? i make rock rails and t-case x-members that i can easily make skids for, if it were so inquired of me. no, it won't be available at 4Wheel Parts, but it will be availabel right here, which, hell, i think, is even better....

if you're going to weld the diffs, i actually offer a service doing just that, send them my way, if you want. as far as running 33's with no lift, better hack the fenders a bit and take a hammer to the body seam on the firewall behind the front tires.

btw- the Sportage engine cranks 130-140 hp stock, and with 4.78 gears, does well with up to a 33" tire, how many ponies that little 1.6 have?

Massive amounts? You call 3027 threads with 26853 massive? LOL, boy that's rich. Since this is the largest Kia forum I've stumbled upon in searches, thats not massive by any stretch of the imagination. When I search for "lifts", there is a lot of moaning about a lack of options.
