is there anyway to test the vss,,,my speedo is not working,,,once in a great while it will jump up to 20 mph and then back to zero,,,my cruise also does not work,,i am guessing because of the speedo,,,,,,i checked and cleaned all wires at the vss and the gauge cluster,,,,can it be the speedometer itself,,is there any way to test that,,,,,any suggestions would be great,,,i do not want to spend over $200 for a new vss and that not be the problem

Have you looked at the FSM that is sticky at the top of this BB. It should tell you how to run a test on it.

P.S. download the FSM on to a disc, you never know when it might go away.

From what i have seen of the electric speedo just before it goes out the needle will be real bouncy and not consistent than it will be off more and more till nothing.

I just went though the same thing. Goto page 12. #6 from this link. It tells you how to test the VSS.

1993 FSM

I found that my VSS was bad and replaced it. Mine is on an auto, so if yours is a manual... I don't know. Look in the 1993 FSM under the manual transmission and see what you come up with.
