Looks like O2 sensors for my car are about $50 to 75ea. I found generic ones for about half that price, $25, but it doesn't look like they come with the harness.

I dont mind cutting and slicing my old harnesses from the bad sensors, but will these generic sensors be any good???

In my experience they are kind of hit and miss. I used them on my old mitsu p/u (only 1 wire) and one of them always read a little low. The one I replaced it with worked fine though.

I put the Bosch o2 sensors with factory plugs in my rodeo a few months ago and they are working fine. My mileage went up a bit after replacing the originals that had 100k miles on them. I've never been a fan of Bosch but havent had problems with their stuff on the rodeo. The ones I had in the mitsu were some off brand I think.

I just found Denso oxygen sensors online for $28. They don't come with the connectors, but I dont mind cutting and splicing my old ones.

Are Denso sensors any better than bosch?

It is not the brand that is the big issue here. It is the cutting/splicing of the connector. Since the O2 sensor is a resistance sensor, things like splices, loose splices, corrosion at splices, different length wires, ect all affect what the ECU sees in the end.

Oh, I didnt know that... So are all O2 sensors basically the same except for the harness and fit? eg. if it fits in the hole, then its ok to use?

Weeeellll...I am not going to go as far as to say that. I would suspect that most O2 sensors are able to provide a reference voltage to the ECU and that range of reference is probably similar across most makes/models, but...I really don't know. Your ECU uses O2 sensors to adjust the a/f ratio and to check up on the function of your cats. If something is not right you might see low gas mileage, over heated cats or just a string of error codes.

What I am worried about is the discussion above is about 1-wire sensors, not the 3/4-wire heated sensors you need. I am actually surprised that you found generic heated sensors.

In the end, you can do whatever you want, but don't forget that if it does not work, you are going to be out an extra $100 for using the cheap sensors and you will still have to buy the correct ones.

Good Luck,
Michael

Denso is a good brand, they are the only spark plugs I use and wouldnt have a problem with using their o2 sensors.

If you go with splicing in the old connectors I would suggest soldering the splices and covering with heat shrink tubing, you can get it at radio shack pretty cheap (remember to slide the tubing on the wire BEFORE soldering together). That would give you the best connection and least corrosion worries. Also make sure you dont get wires swapped around.

Thanks for the info.

I'll prob. order the Denso ones, but does anyone know why there are multiple different Denso sensors for different locations?
