Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi all,
I've been reading the forums for a little while now. I've found some very helpful information.
I recently blew a radiator hose, overheated my engine and warped the head/ blew the head gasket on my '84 4x4 22R carb truck (176k). I found engnbldr here and ordered some parts from him.
I want to thank engnbldr , he was really helpful and answered all my questions.

I'm all buttoned up with a remanufactured head, dual row timing chain and back on the road now. I noticed my truck was running on the hot side ( creeping up past horizontal and heading for the red)at freeway speeds after my top end rebuild. I felt the radiator at operating temp, there was some 'cold spots.'

My old radiator was pretty beat up so I decided to buy a new one. I've read here that people have had good service from radiatorbarn. I was shipped a CSF850 radiator after being repeatedly assured that it was a direct oem replacement, that would accept the dealer ($20.00) radiator cap I just purchased.

I recieved a CSF850 radiator with the filler neck of 1 1/4", not the 1 1/2" neck on my stock radiator. It did'nt have the welded on nuts to bolt the shroud to, just holes and no covers on the trans cooler outlets.

I called radiatorbarn to return the radiator, they wanted me to pay for return shipping and a 15% restocking fee! After some 'stern' words they emailed me a prepaid return slip and refunded my money in full.

After doing some checking around I called Summit and ordered a Proliance (part# 433198) radiator. It came with a 1 1/4" filler neck, so I ordered a Mr. Gasket 13 PSI radiator cap with a built in temp. gauge(part #2472S). The radiator I recieved was a Ready-rad radiator (part# 433198). It came with a cheapy radiator cap, but was better built than the CSF radiator and came with welded on nuts for the shroud and plastic caps on the trans cooler.

It bolted right in with all new hoses, stainless clamps and a new dealer thermostat. The Mr. Gasket radiator cap is pretty trick!

My engine now runs with the factory temp guage a little below the horizontal line and the radiator cap guage around 190 degrees in Florida summer. Im a happy camper now.

P.S. The dual row timing chain clears the valve cover on my 84 22R.

Jeez. I had just the opposite experience with a CSF (from Radiatorbarn). It fit darn good, took the oem cap, had the shroud nuts, and the shroud fit good also.
If I buy another from them I will mention your experience and tell them that I do not want this to happen...

Body Damage is Cool
I've had nothing but good experiences with Go-Dan rads.
I just go to the local Go-Dan warehouse and get them at wholesale price too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
