ok most comonly this problem occurs in the bigger motors i have the four banger with close to 200000 miles and oil is blowing out of the pcv valve i removed the pcv valve and replaced it and the grommet understanding that vacum is everything on these motors ive been careful this jeep is new to me and im guessing the oil wasnt changed frequently but my question is does anyone think it is necessary to remove the valve cover to clean out something or i read a previous post on the 4.0l about spraying fuel injector cleaner in the pcv hole after removing it i cant see this working but please if there are any gear heads who can help im losing a quart every fill up i have a haynes manual if you can suggest what and where to clean out im assuming its under the valve cover but where and what thank you for any input and if im floggin a dead horse i appologize id just feal better if someone addressed me directly <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Jes if you have TWO hoses going into the valve cover one of them is for clean air into the engine and the other should be the pcv. BOTH hoses need to be taken off and reamed out and cleaned inside as either may have crud in them stopping the air flow.
The most common visable leak from blowby is the rear main seal. Small amounts in the aircleaner are usuall from the hoses or pcv.
In bad blowby cases I have taken out the pcv and connected BOTH valve cover hoses to positive vacuume.. This has stopped oil leaks for me in the past.

Yeah it is! Have you checked to make sure that you are losing oil from just PCV filter?. A quart seems like a lot to lose from just blow-by through the PCV.

Gun it and run it!

you have 200,000 miles on that thing, ever think some oil might be getting burned up, bad valve seals? piston slap? try using 10w-40 next time

That is one I'd take the pcv out of and hook it to positive vac..right away.

does anyone think i should remove valve cover and clean oil return slots <holes> the slots under the valve cover that when the oil comes up to lubricate runs down and back inside head, is anyone familiar with this motor the haynes manual doesnt show these slots although they have to be there im assuming there gummed up from not clean thickened oil i was gonna clean them with a pipecleaner or should i pop another hole in valve cover bout three eights wide and put a GROMMET ON IT AND A BREATHER IN IT bigjim unless you have a better idea for the vac idea <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

If it was bothering me I'd hook it directly up to a vac and let the engine burn any oil that gets sucked inside.
