1992 4Runner, V6, 5 speed, 170K. It Starts and accelerates easy, but at 25 to 35 MPH it does not run smoothly. It jerks badly, if I step on the gas it will accelerate smoothly right on up. It is just when IÆm trying to maintain an even speed around 1500 to 2000 rpm. IÆve checked for obvious vacuum leaks and can find none. Any and all ideas will be appreciated. Thanks, PeterY

Run a compression test... Wet and Dry.

Sounds like you toasted the exhaust valves on 1 or 2 cyls (prob #5 or #6). Very common issue around your mileage.

I will check them but let me ask would there not be other problems caused by a bunch of burnt exhaust valves? There is plenty of low RPM power. The problem is noticed around 1500RPM. Any other ideas cause it appears to be a very well taken care of truck or I would not have bought it. I would add a couple pics if I could figure out how... thanks, Peter

Did the bad TPS set off your check engine light? I would think that it should. If I can I will unplug the wires to it and see what happens, as soon as I can find it... Thanks.
