If it still has the cat on it I'd be for cutting it off and taking it for a short ride around the block.. It sure sounds like a stopped up exhaust from here.
Loosing rpm is hard to do suddenly except for exhaust or fuel. Reving to 4500 at stand still means the engine is prolly good.. so that leaves not enough fuel or NO WAY for the exhaust to exit.
Remember it takes more fuel and makes more exhaust when moving.

went to the zone today and fuel pressure at an idle is supposed to be 38-42psi. Haven't got a guage yet but will tonight. I know there isn't hardly any pressure when you put a major load on it. fuel hardly comes out of the fuel rail on the shrader valve. Maybe the boot on the fuel pump might be clogged. They said if the regulator leaks fuel out when you remove the vacuum hose to it, then the regulator is bad. Will try that also.

took it my buddies shop put a pressure guage on it... at idle 30 psi, supposed to be 38-42. Revving it the guage floated all over. He also said the pump should not be that noisy. So I've got a fuel pump ordered.
thanks
