Hey guys.. im new here.. and hopefully i'll be a new tacoma owner in a few weeks... i wen't looking a for a truck a couple of days ago and fell in love with a 2001 tacoma double cab ... the truck is supercharged with a 3 inch body lift and slightly larger tires than stock.. its a v6 and i was wondering what the gas mileage would be like on this... and also what is the downside to a supercharger?

Not sure about gas mileage but with my 98 V6 (not supercharged) I get about 18-20. The supercharger may reduce the life of the engine but that may depend. A 3" bodylift may not be the best way of lifting the truck but will work, I'm sure soon you will catch the bug and start doing many more modifications. How many miles are on it?

The 3.4L V6 engine runs lean with the TRD S/C, so larger injectors and another computer to control those injectors are needed. Once that's done you are resposible for engine management...no more trips to the dealer for drivability issues...they haven't been trained to deal with the additional computer. If the truck doesn't have this, the purchase, installation, and tuning will be expensive as you can imagine. Also, premium fuel will always be required for the S/C engine. Without the larger injectors we run the risk melting a piston and having to rebuild it. I ran the S/C without larger injectors and never melted it, but on some long climbs on mountain roads it was on my mind for sure

I've got a '99 Taco manual trans 2wd 2.4L. I totally feel what you're saying. It's occurred to me a number of times that there MUST be a way to bolt up a transfer case and a solid front axle off of something and make it all work. Hardly Realistic though.

Eh, I guess I'm OT, but mine gets 24 to 28 mpg and is a great around-town truck.

My buddy did it. He now has a beast riding on 38" tires and the original "Prerunner" badges.
