Hiya guys... just wondering if anyone knows/has done a cab swap from an 86 up cab onto an 82 frame? My cab needs alot of work to make it straight and rust free and I really like the look of the later model cabs. If I can pick one up cheap it might make the ultimate mod. I found a truck that had a simular treatment on Ebay. It was an 82 frame with a 96 cab, but they had to customise the frame and it wasn't registered.

Any help would be muchly appreciated <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

on my p/u I have an 84 (2nd gen) 2WD cab and bed on an 83 (1st gen) 4WD frame.

The front cab mounts (at the radiator) need an "adapter" fabbed, as they are spaced differently.
The front holes inside the cab needed to be egged out a bit for the bolts to line up with the frame, and the inside the cab rear mounts line up. Bed mounts line up.

Same here; dropped an 84 cab onto an 81/82 frame. We didn't bother with fabbing adapters for the front 2 mounts tho', as this was already a beater; old cab had a tree fall on it.

So all the gauges and stuff worked as well... or was that a headache to work around?

Also curious if you guys encountered any problems with the fuel tank/filler neck. Aren't the 2nd gen cab's fuel fillers a part of the cab and the first gens are a part of the bed?

No, fuel filler hose is held on at each end (tank and filler assy) by hose clamps. Plus you dont even have to remove any of that, just remove the 3 bolts that hold the filler assy to the bed and the whole thing stays on the tank.
