So, i decided the brand new fan clutch and 3 core rad weren't enough. So yesterday, got some mega high flow electric fans from a ford, and plopped em in oh my god do they flow! hopefully i'll never have to use them, but they're there if the g54b decides to get a little outta hand! Good man! You should have no problems with those mountain passes on Thursday! I may have to drive behind you and take advantage of some of that moving air when you turn those bad boys on!
But Eli - did you ask your alternator what it thought of this new addition? I'd be curious what it had to say? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Do you have anymore pics of the install? ie the mounting and type of fans, wiring, etc... Did you hard wire them to a switch or thermostat? Awesome job, looks real clean <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Eli...you would have had no problem with just your fan clutch and 3-core rad. electric fans are cool though!!!! get it??
I ran my 88 ram 50 with a fubar'd fan clutch for 2 years and it was alright, the temperature only creeped up after about 1/2 hour of idling in HOT HOT weather, then once I started driving it would go back down almost immediately.
I think your electric set-up is more then efficient.

I don't think there is such thing as too much redundancy in the cooling department when wheeling, esp when you're doing steep climbs slowly, high rpm and no airflow to speak of...

my 4wd flashing light problem has got me going mental...I cant figure it out...I have gone over everything a number of times....now I think my actuator only works sometimes. I lubed it up but its being difficult still.
I haven't changed my CV's yet either lol...its been too friggin hot the last few days. I will probably wake up early tomorrow and get a start on them.
But yes I know Cooling is very important...Eli is also turning 33's and my ram sure wasn't. mine was just very effecient for some reason.

The voltage guage barely drops when you hit the switch, but you can tell there is more load on the alt. as throttle response and power seem a c-hair down.
Yeah Nigel, i was pretty sure i'd be fine with just the 3 core rad and new fan clutch, but i figured for $30 and an hour, it was totally worth it. Eric helped out a lot with the mounting and the wiring, i mostly just assisted.
They are wired to a toggle switch on the dash, with a relay under the hood connected to constant power. This way if i overheat on the trail, i can shut the truck down but still leave them on.
They flow enough air, that when turned on and the motor not running, it will spin the factory fan through the rad.
I figure since i've already cracked 2 heads and driven the truck only about 1500 kms total, it was a good idea.
And yes, Phil, in 66 hours we will be eating breaky, fueling up and hitting the road!

yah thats a good idea with the toggle switch. you should pull your original clutch fan off...you don't need it anymore and now its just causeing a drag on your engine.
I am not sure what other mitsu's use the same style alternator with more amperage. a few years ago I took a 75amp off of a plymouth sapporo at p-n-p. it kept on killing my battery over night....it charged like an SOB though.
