ok well my turn signals have offically died... at first they worked fine, then they only worked if i kinda pushed the lever towards the dash. well now they don't work at all.

i need this car to drive to work so the whole no blinker thing is making me feel like an ass when changing lanes, so this needs to be fixed asap.

so my questions are:
where should i start first in my search for the culprit?

are there any parts that are prone to failure in the turn signal circuit?

oh and it might help to know i have a 88' 4 cyl. montero

thanks in advance.

First, use hand signals, that'll keep you legal. Next, it sounds like the multi switch in the column is crapping out. Take it out, clean the contacts, see if that helps. Use some contact cleaner (electrical parts cleaner), maybe some real fine emory cloth, take it apart carefully, making mental notes or physical drawings of how it goes back together. Or, just buy another one to throw in there

Also do the same with your hazard switch.

Do they come on at all (i.e., come on, stay on, and not blink) when you engage the turn signal lever to one way or another or do they not come on at all?

if they stay on it could be your flasher, if it is they're less than $20 to replace.

yes...if nothing happens it could be your hazard light switch...if that is unplugged or broken you will have no signal lights or anything.

That hazard swith is a pisser, ain't it? My hazards would only work on one side. And my blinkers didn't seem to have the right "timing." This was the third of the switches from my donor trucks from way back now.

I picked up a very clean switch from fleabay and threw it in today. All is well...

well they don't work at all, they don't light up or anything. also when i was in the slight push towards dash stage they would sometimes skip a blink.

so is there way i can test the hazard switch?

thanks matt

also thought i would say that the hazard lights work fine.

so is the blinker switch(lever thing) broken?

I fixed my Hazzard switch with tooth picks & superglue... Very common issue with them is to have the rocker pivots break. I just got it to where all the lights work & superglued it into position.
THne got a road flare kit & a flare gun ( outta my old boat ) just for added insurance on the trail ( If the Cell phone, CB & Ham radio fail me ).
