Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had 4.88 yukon gears and a detroit truetrac installed in my front third member of my '85 truck. i reinstalled the third member and put the front end back together. but now even when my hubs are unlocked the yoke on the thirdmember still spins when i just roll or coast the truck. is it suppose to do this what is wrong with it. thanks for any help

You probably either installed the hubs improperly, or used too much grease inside the hubs and they are sticking. Tear them back apart and re-check them. I have some links on my site to some good rebuilds

Many non-full time 4WD vehicles do it. It has something to do with all the gears that are turning. I bet if you put all four wheels off the ground, started it up in gear you could grab the d-shaft and stop it. If everything is set up right, it is not really under power.

Correct. I've seen several of my vehicles do it. I double checked and nothing was broken or locked, it was just the grease\gear friction that can make it turn.
Now, it may have been too much grease on my Toyotas but my GM and Fords are totally OEM and they do it too.
EDIT: But I'm not saying you didn't put somethign back together wrong. smile

i have never used grease in my hubs.. learned this from a buddy... when i work on my hubs i soak the gears in a heavy gear oil and reasemble them... have never had any trouble with this procedure and they have never rusted or goten stuck on me ...i usually pull them apart every year and redo them when im checking things out

Climb under without it running; see if you can turn the d-shaft, tranny in neutral t-case in 2 high. If it turns, you are good to go. If it does not turn, break out the wrenches. I would start with the hubs first.
